What Is A PAT Test Total Safe UK

What is a PAT test? It stands for ‘Portable Appliance Testing’ so in short, it means testing almost anything that we might use through an electrical power supply.

Think of all the things at work this applies to; laptop, chargers, phones and so on. Even some larger items, like desktop computers or the office microwave for zapping our lunch as soon as it hits 12:01, could hardly be considered “portable” yet they still fall into the same category when it comes to testing.

Items like our desktop computers probably only need testing every 2 years. But something as little as a kettle is classed as a higher risk appliance and may need testing as frequently as every 6 months! This is because they are used with water, and generally used a LOT (we all need that ‘just one more’ cup of tea!)

If you obtain a PAT certificate to say that your items have passed, this doesn’t mean that these items are now safe until the end of time. The certificate means that the appliances were safe at the time and place where they were checked. But this could change at any point. Regular checks will ensure they remain safe.

If you suspect that your electrical items are not up to scratch, and could do with a re-test, then please give us a call and we can help to ensure that they are totally safe.
