Employees and PAT testing – As a business owner, PAT Testing should be a term that your employees are made familiar with.

Even though devices have been throughly checked and certified does not mean that absolutely nothing can go wrong with them. Unfortunately, plug sockets can still become overloaded and faulty equipment can still overheat.

The purpose of an electrical device can also increase/decrease the likelihood of it needing a more frequent inspection. If an ‘in office laptop’ that never leaves the desk suddenly becomes a ‘travel laptop’ that moves around a lot between the office and your home, for example, then the charger and device will need to have a more frequent testing to account for the more rigorous wear and tear.

Ensuring that employees have some basic knowledge in Portable Appliance safety will help them to recognise the early warning signs of a dangerous cable, faulty port or failing socket and they can flag this up with the relevant person. Don’t let them become complacent. When it comes to personnel safety or fire safety, an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.
