Where businesses have multiple fire points, they often like to number each fire point.  1.7 – 2m off the ground directly above the fire extinguisher(s) is the position that these signs should be installed. They help larger premises understand and manager their fire extinguishers better across site. Often in conjunction with this, the fire log book will be used; recording the fire point numbers and any actions carried out against each one. This helps managers to see at a glance how often the extinguishers have been serviced and replaced without having to go to the fire point itself (lazy maybe, but it saves a lot of time!)

This would be no good to a panicked individual in the event of an emergency who would not have the time or presence to read all 6 panels to work out which extinguishers are right. Instead, a good position for these signs would be in a communal area. Or, if the installer is really keen to ensure it is positioned somewhere people will actually take the time to read it – they should install it on the back of the cubicle toilet door – that usually works!
