Fire safety should be our ultimate priority! There are several different regulations we should follow to ensure the safety of those around us; employees, the public, tenants etc. – one of which is a Fire Risk Assessment.  It’s really important to consider all risks when it comes to an FRA. These are just a few of the things that you might include in yours: "fire risk?" message written on a notepad

General Housekeeping – keeping escape routes clear; fire doors and exits should be maintained and kept unobstructed

Kitchen area – ensure cooking equipment has automatic fire suppression and fire extinguishers/blankets are provided. No cooking equipment should be left unattended

Heating – appropriately secured, fitted and guarded, and regular servicing

Smoking – signage, deep non-combustible ashtrays, and empties into metal waste bins outside (not plastic disposal bags)

Electrical safety – overheating, correct installations, damaged equipment, maintenance and testing, and regular inspections by an electrical engineer.

This is hardly an exhaustive list and you need to identify and control, the risks that are specific to YOUR business. Generic templates/checklists are available for you to use but are not adequate, especially if you are not qualified to undertake FRA’s.

The responsibility of performing an FRA can also be really daunting for many of us as it is such a huge responsibility to ensure people’s safety. This is where Total Safe can help as we can take away the pressure from you and conduct your assessment meticulously and ensure the safety of all those involved.
