Dry Riser Inlet - Total Safe UK Essex and the South East Fire safety systems including alarms, detectors and sprinklers that protect lives need to be inspected on a regular basis. This is to ensure they are functioning correctly and are safe to use. The exact same is true of a dry riser system.

What problems can arise?

Lack of access to water mains can be a problem for firefighters on arrival at premises where a fire is occurring. This is a problem for multi-storey buildings such as apartment blocks, tall housing and office buildings.

Another problem for them, can be low mains pressure at the point of connection. Installing a Dry Riser will help address these problems. The system provides ready access to water on every floor of a building. It also provides high water pressure on every floor too.

In 2006, after a few consecutive cases of Dry Riser system failure, new legislation was introduced. This was later updated in January 2015 to make Dry Riser testing compulsory every 12 months for all buildings that have one installed on their premises.

To help maintain the dry riser systems, legislation also states that as well as an annual dry riser test, an inspection of the system should be carried out every 6 months.
