Basic Life Support Course Content
Our short and fun courses will teach you to provide basic life support (BLS), resuscitation and help you feel confident using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). In an emergency, having a trained individual on hand to provide basic life support can mean the difference between life and death. In some cases, the use of an AED is what save’s a person’s life.
What does our course cover?
We cover BLS skills which includes skills for adults, children and infants, as well as healthcare variations on infant CPR. We talk through safety measures, precautions, initial assessment, recovery position, CPR and much more. An ideal course for nurses, care workers and medical professionals needing annual updates to compete professional membership, this course really is suitable for everyone.
Our course ensures you are fully trained and confident in both and upon completion, you will receive a Total Safe certificate. Certificates are valid for 1 year and comply with the latest ECR and UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
Our course covers the following topics:
- Recognise and treat a choking adult, child or infant
- Initiate basic life support
- Recognise an adult, child or infant in cardiac arrest
- Identify how and when to use the recovery position
- Appropriately handover the patient to the emergency services
- Demonstrate competence in using an AED
- Know how to service and maintain an AED
- Recognise the safety aspects of defibrillation
- Describe cardiac rhythms and what happens during defibrillation
- Describe the chain of survival and need for defibrillation
