When it comes to testing Dry Risers, a lot our clients have no idea what to expect as it isn’t exactly an everyday subject that people know a great deal about. Here are some of the questions that you may have when it comes to testing…

Does a Dry riser need to be tested every year?

YES. Dry Risers need to pass a pressure test each and every year to comply with British Standard.

Without a valid Dry Riser test certificate is my insurance invalid?

YES. In most situations, building insurance will actually be invalid without a valid Dry Riser test certificate.

We have just taken over management of a building; how do I know if the Dry Risers have been tested?

You should have been given a valid test certificate when taking over the premises stating that the Dry Risers have been fully tested, are fully functioning and completely safe. If this is not the case, or you simply cannot find it, then we would advise that the units ideally need testing as soon as possible.

How long is a Dry Riser test certificate valid for?

All Dry Riser annual test certificates are valid for 1 year.

How long will it take to carry out testing Dry Risers?

Depending on access to the Dry Riser inlet, a full pressure test usually takes between 1 and 2 hours to perform.
Dry Riser Maintenance

Dry Riser Testing with Total Safe

A fully qualified Total Safe engineer will perform a visual inspection of the Dry Riser itself, then cordon off any areas affected by the testing. The system is then charged with water, and monitored to ensure the pressure is maintained over time and distance. After the test is complete, the pipework is drained and the cabinets are closed and safely locked.
At Total Safe, we make the whole process easy and economical, keeping you updated and informed every step of the way.
