CO2 Extinguishers are designed to fight Class B and C fires; the types of fires that are triggered by flammable liquids and electrical equipment dysfunctions. They should not be used on any other classes of fire.

These extinguishers work by removing the oxygen from the fire. They are mostly used for electrical fires because they do not leave any residue after being discharged.

Although mainly red, CO2 extinguishers have a black colour code panel to enable quick identification in case of an emergency.

CO2 Extinguisher – Did you know..?

The most often recommended extinguisher for office environments are CO2 extinguishers.CO2 extinguisher Total Safe UK fire safety solutions

It can be seriously dangerous to use a CO2 extinguisher on a cooking fat fire because their powerful discharge may cause the fire to spread or even cause an explosion.

Because of the high pressure in CO2 extinguishers, they must not be stored near radiators or in direct sunlight. If they get hot, the pressure will quickly rise, and a safety valve will open to release the high pressure. As a result, your CO2 extinguisher will, therefore, contain less CO2 than you would expect.
