Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.
On the 4th of May 2021, a local charity to us, ‘Kids Inspire’ made an announcement on their social media channels that sadly they had been broken into and their whole premises was vandalised. This was following a weekend of fund raising by their team who carried out 100 Acts of Kindness in celebration of Captain Tom for the #CaptinTom100Challenge. How anyone could do such a thing in general is bad enough, but to do it to a place of charity and kindness is simply awful!
Locks and glass had been smashed to gain access into the premises and the building was ransacked for pretty cash. There were signs of drug use and paint had been thrown across the halls and around the building. The perpetrators had also set off their fire extinguishers on site leaving them with no fire protection equipment.
We were approached by a mutual friend who suggested that we might be able to help. How could we say no? Seeing the videos of the damage; our hearts broke for them. After a weekend of this charity carrying out 100 acts of kindness, how could we not offer just 1 act of kindness in return?
The charity was inundated with messages from members of the public offering to help clean up the damage and offers of donations for the charity flew in one after another.
As the Fire Extinguishers had been set off, we knew that it was really important to get some replacements to them asap as we could not leave any premises without any fire protection equipment. So, the girls in the office got on to arranging some straight away. We got in touch with Fire Depot who kindly donated 5x shiny new Chrome Fire Extinguishers. Our company director Sam later delivered them to the charity and commissioned them on site free of charge.
The charity office could not be more grateful for not just our help but the help from the local community too. They were completely overwhelmed with all the support and well wishes they received, and it was so lovely to watch.
What a lovely example of a community pulling together in someone’s time of need! It just shows that even the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference. And for us, what a good feeling it was to be able to give just a little something back to a charity that gives so much!
